How to Wear the “Great Scrub Hat”

Scrub hat history began when the importance of a “sterile “environment included hair. Before that, scrub hats were not considered a needed item during surgery. During the forties and fifties the scrub hat became the standard wear of medical/surgical staff. Scrub hats were not only used for the protection of patients and keeping contaminates off ,but also for staff, keeping hair free from unhealthy material and from falling into the surgical site, which of course is a very good thing.
As fashion began to revolutionize, so did the scrub hat. Beginning as a very basic rather hair net covering article, style and function emerged. The scrub hat became as unique as the person wearing it. Currently cute and smart, the hat has become not only a protective covering but a personal statement, standing out in the sea of ceil blue and hospital green scrubs. Favorites types of the scrub hats range from bouffant, wrap around bonnets, surgical styles and ponytails. There are many fun choices and styles that accommodate all hair lengths and cuts. The modern scrub hat is found outside of the operating room as well. It is now worn during non-invasive office procedures in clinics, dental offices and veterinary clinics. This hat has become the stylish way to cover–up.
Steps for wearing that Great Scrub Hat
· If you have long hair, tying it back in a ponytail or a bun, low on the back of the head is usually the best placement for the majority of scrub hat styles.
· Then place the front of the scrub hat on the center of the forehead slightly above the eyebrow; this is the best bet and the most comfortable. Prior to putting on the scrub hat make sure that any strands that are loose are bobby pinned back.
· Pull the scrub hat down in the back making sure that all of the hair is covered, especially around the neck area if your hair is longer. Some wearers of the scrub hats like the ears partially covered, others don’t and prefer that their ears are completely exposed over the hat but this too is an area of choice. You just want to make sure hair is nicely tucked in.
· If you have a scrub hat with a tieback style, tying the hair in the back first is great for later removal and adjustment. Fit and adjust the hat for comfort and if the style is ponytail, rap the ribbon around and tie securely.
