Change of Season - Autumn
It's here… not sure how the time changed so quickly, but here we are. Where I live, the air is getting crisper, though it is still warm, yet you can "Feel the change." as some would say. I noticed a flyer from our local orchard that the pumpkins will soon be ready, and a notice will be sent for you to pick your own; I love pumpkin donuts and their smell. Don't know why Fall and Food connect; however, they seem interwoven. Here is the big thing about Autumn: a bunch of holidays are squeezed into it, so the urge to hunker down before winter mixes with the rush to not let this season's celebrations overwhelm you. Autumn lends itself to a time to reactivate our focus, make small changes…which usually are the most profound over the long run, and embrace the season with both mind and body.
The hot, dog days of summer are gone.
In most places, the most enjoyable thing about Fall is the first cool breezes that beckon us to get outdoors to enjoy nature. Brisk walks and hikes and the beauty the earth reflects refresh the soul and the body. Plus, research has shown that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure and bring down those cortisol levels that stress tends to ramp up, which is a double win. Also, it seems to clear the mind – like setting the reset button. And the great thing is that even a 15-minute walk can be a game changer. Seriously, the easiest way to get that exercise without feeling like you are exercising is the best of the best.
A new vibe.
The worst thing for personal structure is boredom. There is structure in the health care field as well as other intense work fields, but let's admit something… it can be monotonous. The thought of newness and change is exciting and a way to show us we can let go and free ourselves… kind of like the Fall leaves that shed, knowing that a new time is about to happen…. Anyway.
Joy and Fall connect. A new book—there are lots of them out there—an old family recipe to try, an afternoon hike… show that it is okay to slow down and get a new mindset
