I have a quick question.
Who decided.... September means we are suddenly suppose to make a quick adjustment ...Autumn?
Summer barely packed its bag and already there are calendars filling up, school papers appearing on kitchen counters, appointments we forgot we made, and somebody asking what we’re doing for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving?
Can we get through Thursday first?
For those working in healthcare, the whole idea of a neat little seasonal transition is especially questionable. There isn’t exactly a meeting where everyone agrees that summer has ended and things will now become calm and organized.
The waiting room did not get the memo.
Neither did the OR.
And I’m fairly certain the person who called at 4:47 didn’t get it either.
Still, September does have something going for it.
It feels like there’s something ahead.
Not necessarily something big. That’s what I like about it.
A place you’ve been talking about going. Pulling out something you haven’t worn in months and remembering you actually love it. Seeing a friend who somehow disappeared into everyone’s summer schedules.
Little possibilities, yes.
And after months of heat, schedules, vacations that required more preparation than some small military operations, kids home from school, kids going back to school, and everyone trying to squeeze one more thing into summer...maybe looking forward sounds pretty good.
Not Everything Needs a Plan
There’s a temptation this time of year to start organizing everything…Yep do it all the time.
The closet. The garage. The calendar. Our goals. Possibly other people.
Resist.
Maybe September can simply be a month when we start noticing what sounds good again.
Dinner, get the crockpot out. A Sunday afternoon with nowhere particularly important to be. Calling someone instead of thinking, I really need to call them.
And yes, maybe trying something different just because it caught your eye.
Around MedCap®, we’re feeling a little of that too. New fabrics start looking interesting. A print you might have passed over before suddenly gets a second look. And every once in a while, one comes along that makes you stop and think, well...that’s definitely me.
We like those moments.
Our handcrafted scrub hats are made for long days in hospitals, clinics, surgical areas and all the other places healthcare professionals spend their working hours. Comfort matters. Fit matters. But there’s also room for a little individuality in the middle of all that practicality.
Especially when you spend a good part of your week in scrubs.
There’s Still Plenty of Year Left
Maybe that’s one of the nicest things about September.
It sits in this interesting little spot on the calendar. Summer is behind us, the holidays haven’t completely taken over yet, and there’s still enough year left to do something with it.
Not accomplish something with it.
Just do something with it.
Take the drive. Meet for breakfast with the girls. Wear the print. Stay home all Saturday without explaining yourself to anyone.
Or make absolutely no plans and see what happens.
Healthcare schedules don’t always cooperate with weekends, holidays or everybody else’s idea of free time. Sometimes the good part lands on a Wednesday afternoon. Sometimes “the weekend” starts Monday morning.
It still counts.
So maybe we don’t need September to be a fresh start.
Maybe it can simply be a good place to look ahead and think...
There are still some pretty good things coming.
And we don’t have to know exactly what they are yet.
